The pond was stagnant, the air abuzz with flies, but intrepid wordsmith Marjory squelched gamely on.
Her mission was simple: test the veracity of English expressions. Already, she’d established that she could have any cake and eat it too, and happily picnic despite being short of a sandwich (thanks to all the cake).
Three days later, having got somewhat distracted hunting for rats in the attic, Marjory remembered the box she’d filled at the pond. Prising open the lid, she peered inside. As she thought. Another idiom in need of revision. Not mad, but DEAD as a box of frogs.
