Why work with a local book editor?
Since going freelance in 2006, I’ve worked with a lot of authors – authors in London and Glasgow and New York and Dubai, and authors much closer to home. I’ve found that local authors like to work with me because it feels like we’re making a closer connection. When you’re an author, your book is your baby, and it’s difficult to hand it over to anyone, let alone an editor (even the most seasoned writer can feel wobbly about feedback). When your editor is just down the road, figuratively speaking, there’s a greater feeling of trust and connection.
A good author–editor relationship is important, and it’s something I pride myself on building with my clients. I’m not a machine revising manuscripts; I’m a person who’s passionate about writing and books, and the best part of my job is supporting authors to achieve their goals. Many of my clients work with me on their next book and their next, because they see me as their editor who genuinely cares about their publishing journey.

Nottingham writing coach
Alongside my editorial projects, I work as a writing coach, drawing on all of my experience to gently guide, untangle and support fellow writers. My coaching clients develop confidence in their projects and, most importantly, in themselves as writers.
Often, I coach writers remotely, via email and video call. But I’m very happy to meet up in Beeston/Nottingham and talk about your writing. Perhaps over a cup of tea?
